A quiet, steady day—the kind we’re always grateful for.

Kristin from Speech came in today and worked with Dallas on her swallows. There was a bit of a grimace when she introduced an ice chip, and we’re pretty sure it was just too cold for her liking. Aside from that moment, she continued to do well with the practice. We’ll take those small steps.

Rounding was short today, but came with a couple of good updates. Her PPI medication—which helps manage stomach acid and reflux—has now officially dropped to one dose a day. This change has been in the works and it feels good to make it official. There’s also a tentative plan to condense her feeds to four times a day by Tuesday, as long as the next day or two go smoothly. Another gentle shift toward “normal,” and one we’re hopeful about.

PopPop had some quality time with Dallas this afternoon, which included about 20 squeezes from her left hand in a row. He noticed that when he gave feedback—like saying “ouch!” or “you got me”—she seemed to enjoy the response and would do it again. It makes us wonder if PT or OT has a toy that gives some sort of feedback, maybe a sound, when squeezed. Something to encourage those movements and make them feel like a little game.

Sort of an “opportunity” presented itself when our neighbor on the floor was transferred to a different unit. It was a much bigger room, and one that PT/OT wouldn’t have to rearrange the furniture to work with Dallas. I made the request to “move”, they allowed it, and now we have more space – winning!

All in all, it was a low-key day—and the type we’ll never complain about.

Such a positive update! Re the hand squeezing—maybe a soft dog toy from the pet store would be perfect—one that sqeaks!
