Today we got what we hoped for – a calm Mother’s Day with nothing on the agenda.
Rounding was short and simple this morning: Dallas is continuing to tolerate her feeds and had reached her goal volume by 11 a.m. As long as she keeps this up, we’ll look at clustering some of her meds together via the NG tube instead of using the IV. We learned her cytokine panel is back, so we expect the neuro team to stop by tomorrow to go over it with us. An echocardiogram is scheduled for this week, after which both the cardiology and hematology teams will assess the ongoing need for anticoagulant medications.
Grammy Dee drove up this morning from Wilmington and brought a delicious breakfast casserole. It’s always special when she, Heather, and Dallas can spend time together—especially on Mother’s Day. We decorated the room for the occasion with bead necklaces and colorful streamers.
I felt that Dallas’s “yeses” with her eyes seemed more intentional today—like when we asked if she wanted out of her chair and again when we asked if she was all done and wanted to close her eyes. The weather was cooler and wet, but we still managed to get her out into the hallway for a few laps around the floor.
Perhaps it was the dark, rainy day—or just the quiet schedule—but Dallas took quite a few cat naps today. Given the option, I’d like to be in the same boat sometimes. We’re grateful for the uneventful days and the opportunity for her to simply focus on healing. Tomorrow we’ll continue!
“My mother… she is beautiful, softened at the edges and tempered with a spine of steel. I want to grow old and be like her.” — Jodi Picoult

Glad your mother’s day was peaceful, pretty picture, her eyes say so much. Happy you were able to share the day with your mom. That was special. Wishing and hoping the week ahead is healing, with brighter days. Sleep well. Sending gentle hugs and kisses. Love Aunt Grace and family.
Dallas looks so alert and content just cuddling with Heather! Beautiful photo Brett. It sounds like you all had a wonderful, peaceful day together.
Continuing prayers for easy healing days.

Happy Mama’s Day Heath! So glad it was an “easier”day although none of this is easy although you wouldn’t know with the strength and grace both of you show each day for Dallas! Praying for you guys every day!
Happy Mother’s Day, Heather! We pray every night for Dallas’s strength, comfort, and healing. We also pray for you and Brett; for your patience, strength, faith and comfort. Reading her updates each night just shows how strong you both are, how much love there is in your family, and how resilient that Dallas is. We will continue to keep your family in our prayers and read the progress she makes.
Sounds like a wonderful day with good homemade food, decorations and love. Keep filling your hearts, minds and bellies each day. The photo is so beautiful – she has her Momma’s eyes.
So special that you have family close for help and visits. Glad to hear it was an uneventful day-they have been few. The mind, body, and soul all need a day of rest. Prayers for good reports from all the doctors and more steps forward.
