Posted: 05-21-2025Dallas had a restful night with PopPop, sounds like she got nearly 12 hours of rest! This helped her to have a more productive day with PT today, which is always a good thing. No speech therapy today, but we anticipate seeing their team again tomorrow.
We met with a member of the surgery team and Dallas will likely have her g-tube surgery on Friday. It’s expected to be about an hour and a fairly routine surgery here at Chapel Hill – we were told that sometimes upwards of half the kiddos on the Children’s floors have them. Having the g-tube placed is our ticket towards getting her into inpatient rehab, where she can get the intense therapies that she greatly needs.
We met with “Lori from Levine” and made plans for us to make the move there (Charlotte) next week. While the exact day isn’t known, it feels good to have a definitive plan for next week. During the week days, we can expect to have up to 3 hours of therapy a day. She’ll still have therapies on the weekends, but not as much. It was exciting to learn that they have a smaller inpatient facility, with maybe 12-13 patients at a time. Children often are doing therapies in the same large rooms, so we’re excited for Dallas to have some other kids to engage and interact with. Speaking of friends… we made a friend here at Ronald McDonald House that will also be transferring to Levine next week, so we’re excited to already a friend when we get there.
After spending some time outside in the courtyard today, we returned to the room where Dallas and Heather snuggled on the couch for a little over an hour. Much of that time, Dallas took a nap in Heather’s lap – something they both needed and enjoyed!

The move signals a big step toward recovery! I hope they have pet therapy in Charlotte. Somehow, that’s such a healing impact.
Bless you all. You must be exhausted! I’m so glad grandfathers are so involved…takes some of the pressure off mom and dad. Blessings and love coming,
Moving forward in very positive ways. Praying for continued improvements and a routine g-tube placement on Friday.

Another pretty picture of your 2 girls. The news of a good surgery is progress. Hard as it is to go through this for you all, I have to be thankful for the knowledgeable medical professionals. There are more positives to look forward to with your move to Charlotte. New friends for everyone and new treatments. As far as a mother’s love and comfort (Princess Di), a father’s love and attention is very important and cannot be replaced! Thoughts and prayers to you all.
