The plan for the day was to leave the PICU, and we can check that box – we’re back on the main children’s floor as of this evening.
Since no bacteria has cultured in her blood samples, we’re consolidating down a a single antibiotic from the 3 broad spectrum ones that she was on. Her “A line” was also removed, as they don’t use them on the main floor. Just a few things removed or consolidated, but we’re glad to shed them.
PT/OT came by and did some mild work with Dallas, mainly focused on sitting up in bed and some general stretching. They also offered some guidance to us regarding her sternum precautions post-surgery, and best practices on how to best move her, and more importantly… what to avoid.
Lots of rumbling was happening in her belly today, which was later followed by a BM. This is a good sign that things are continuing to work bowel-wise, especially since we’re on day 5 of 7 on bowel rest to address the Pneumatosis/NEC.
Her eye gaze has been mostly focused towards the left side, but she did cross over midline and towards the right when Neuro was in for an exam. We’ll plan to get her cytokine levels, not change course of treatment, but give another piece of info for the big puzzle. IvIG was started this afternoon and I believe the plan was to run it over the next few days.
Since back on the main children’s floor, we noticed her heart rate had dipped into the 60’s –something we’re not comfortable with. Given the history of the end of last week, we’ve consulted with the resident doctor, who is getting her supervising attending doctor involved.
Dallas is on quite a few meds, including a blood thinner to help with the potential clot/fibrous sheath, so we want to make sure we’re covering all of our bases. This may include getting another echocardiogram later this evening for peace of mind that all is well.

It sounds like you’re on the right path. This photo is awesome! She’s making progress again. God take care of you and Heather and please please keep making progress! She’s an amazing little one!!!
I love the picture you posted tonight!! What a sweet angel!!!
Dallas is the definition to “one day at a time”
God has a plan and he will give you the strength to get through it.
Brett and Heather, The picture is so pretty, and it’s great to see Dallas’ eyes open. I am so relieved to hear that the surgery gave some answers and that means
progress. It is wonderful that Dallas got through the surgery well. I don’t understand everything you wrote, but I got the gist which sounds good to me. I am glad you are together for your girl! I hope you will take breaks when you need them. You don’t have to write every day if you are busy and tired, although it is great to read about how things are going. I think about you a lot and want to hear your news, but just don’t want to give you more work. Take care of yourselves, Dallas, and each other. Reyn

I am following and praying everyday! This picture touches my heart. You are all so strong! Thank you for keeping us all posted.
Dallas has the most beautiful profile, despite having gone through so much, she looks alert and healthy.
Hope shes more comfy with some tubes removed and
a bm to make her tummy feel better.
Back to a regular room, that’s great progress, hope she can go outside soon, to hear the 🐦 birds and breathe in the fresh air. May red robins come by to say hello. Hope sunny days await you all, bringing Dallas back to good health, she has such pretty blue eyes to talk now, may her voice return soon.
Love, gentle hugs and kisses. Aunt Grace Uncle Alan and family.
Progress is wonderful to read. Continued prayers for healing, strength and progress. Hugs to all.
