Dallas had the cough assist last night around midnight, but we've fortunately moved on to an "as needed" basis. She seems to be managing her coughs and keeping her airway on her own pretty well now.
We were happy to welcome Brooklyn from Music Therapy again, as she is able to play light guitar music and sing some of Dallas's favorite songs, including APT. (ballad style) – a song by ROSÉ & Bruno ... Continue Reading

We’re still reducing the cough assist frequency, which Dallas only had once today. We feel she’s doing a much better job clearing her mucus and airway, and don’t want to overdo it if not necessary. Coughing has also decreased.
Her feeds were bumped up overnight and she had 2 bolus feeds again today without issue. We’re slowing working toward a more traditional feeding schedule, but gradually reintroducing it.
PT/OT were back working with Dallas ... Continue Reading

Short update today; PT/OT came to work with Dallas and got her sitting on edge of bed (while fully supported, of course). They asked Dallas to move/kick her leg and she was able to do so in response. While they were here, it seemed like she was trying to visually track her pink unicorn squishy toy as we moved it around. Sitting like this, even though fully supported, wore her out.
The absolute ... Continue Reading
Sunday, April 6th – Dallas had some visitors
April 6, 2025
We're happy to report that Dallas had her nasal cannula of O2 removed overnight, and has maintained upper 90's in her O2 sat readings since. Although she had some light coughing most of the night, she did have a few good productive coughs today and got some mucus out. Otherwise, heart rate has remained stable and vitals looking good and steady. Today's nurse, Logan, asked her to squeeze her finger and did ... Continue Reading

A few hours into bedtime last night, Dallas’s coughing started ramping up again. The cough assist prior to bed helped for a bit, but by 4am, it became clear she needed more support. The respiratory therapist was called in for another round, as the cough assist treatments continue to help her breathe easier, even if they interrupt rest.
We set a few small goals for the day—give Dallas a bath, get her into ... Continue Reading
Movin’ on Up – April 4th
April 4, 2025
Dallas had a pretty restless night with lots of coughing—working hard to clear the mucus that’s been hanging out in the upper respiratory area, especially near the back of her throat. It’s exhausting work, but she’s been giving it all she's got. Proud of our girl.
This morning started with PT dropping in. They’ve now asked us to stretch Dallas every hour for 30 seconds—ankles, knees, hips, hands, arms, even her head. Added ... Continue Reading

Dallas had a series of encouraging moments today that highlight her resilience and the dedicated care she's receiving.
During the morning with Heather, Dallas responded to stimulation by reaching for her right hand and bending at the elbow—an action the doctors have termed a "more appropriate response." This mirrors the progress she showed with her left arm yesterday, signaling additional improvement.
She experienced a significant coughing episode, managing to expel some mucus. She appeared ... Continue Reading

Happy to share that Dallas’s back MRI came back normal yesterday—one less thing to worry about.
The resident doctor came in this morning for an evaluation. Heather mentioned that Dallas had been coughing a bit overnight, and we’re still scratching our heads over it. She was virus-free when she was admitted, but hospitals have a way of introducing new variables. The good news is that her lungs sound clear. We also realized she ... Continue Reading

It’s another day in the books here at the hospital, and Dallas continues to give us reasons to smile, cheer, and just marvel at her resilience. Here’s the rundown from today—plenty of little wins and some steps forward to share, which were the best Happy Birthday to me :)
Overnight her O2 levels were hanging out around 90, so the team decided to pop a nasal cannula on her with a low flow ... Continue Reading
3/31/25 Updates
March 31, 2025
Our girl had a fairly quiet night. Her BP was a bit higher out of the gate this morning of 131/87 and temp stayed consistent at or near 100 degrees.
Her lungs were a bit junky today, which is frustrating because she doesn't have any viruses (that testing has revealed) going on. Her nurse started doing chest PT throughout the day to help loosen things up in hopes of producing a productive cough. ... Continue Reading
